Book Review: The Quantum Hemispheres — Book One: The Rise of ARCO By Michael Turner, Denver, Colorado, USA
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
I picked up the Kindle version after seeing discussions online comparing the book to a more grounded and geopolitical version of The Expanse. What interested me most was the focus on infrastructure, systems, and technological control rather than the usual end-of-the-world scenario.
The book feels believable because the world isn’t destroyed overnight. Instead, it slowly reorganises itself around systems that become too efficient and too necessary to challenge. Working in cybersecurity, I could relate to a lot of the themes around interconnected systems and how invisible infrastructure quietly shapes decisions people think are still human-controlled.
The pacing is thoughtful and intelligent, and the world-building feels realistic rather than exaggerated. By the end, I found myself thinking less about the characters and more about how plausible some of these trends already are.
Definitely one of the more interesting sci-fi books I’ve read in recent years.
